A word from the collective:

We meet at the confluence. Three young artists, all destined for different journeys, find each other in this moment. As artists, we create to go beyond the initial spark of inspiration, to immortalize moments, to question, and to honor people and spaces that are or once were. Individually, we draw inspiration from differing aspects of the everyday; collectively, we all create to slow down, to meditate on the moments of our lives that catch us in our footsteps. We meet at this junction to bring you Angels and Auras.

The title Angels and Auras alludes to the idea that it is not only the physically present elements of the everyday that inspire us, but the intangible interactions with ancestral spirits and ethereal evocations of light and emotion that give us the inspiration to create.

In Angels and Auras, we come together to share the stories we’ve gathered in the intimate observations and conversations of our daily lives. The selected works in this exhibition create a dynamic overview of the everyday as we move from images captured as foreigners in unfamiliar lands, to intimate portrayals of home, and exploration of conversations in the ether. This body of work travels from the cities of Southwest Asia, to the Islands of Hawai’i, the woods of Oregon, the streets of San Francisco, and the canals of Amsterdam. It is a love letter to the Angels and Auras that have graced us throughout this lifetime.

Wesley Colvin writes this letter through his work as a photojournalist, documenting and gathering stories that transcend borders. His images are juxtaposed with the work of Sofia Bews. She works primarily through the observations of the elements of her home on the Hawaiian islands, exploring how these elements have transmuted stories and energies for generations. Thus begins a conversation between those who ground down into home to observe and those who seek to understand from afar. To add to this dialogue, my work documents both images of home and those of far-off lands. It seeks to capture everyday encounters with the divine, drawing into spaces of mediation and thought that allow one to reach beyond the veil. These differing levels of observation allow us to develop a holistic understanding of how we all can engage with the everyday.

Through this exhibition of our work, we hope to inspire you to move deeper into your observations of everyday life.

Hold onto those moments that send tingles down your spine.

Pay attention to the symbols and synchronicities.

Question, what is the present moment telling you?
