ODDMENT//AUGMENT

The overlooked, the unexpected, the discarded, the tossed, the forgotten remnant: these are the roots of ODDMENT // AUGMENT, an exhibition of artists who create by transforming fragments of their lived environments.

Torryne Choate’s work is a response to place. During a period of solitude in the Californian high desert, Choate intuitively collaborated with her surroundings, creating abstract sculptures from its material offerings. The resulting artworks explore balance and contradiction by structuring the formless.

Matt Gonzalez’s found and repurposed photographs allow viewers to experiment with their memories, intertwining them with someone else’s past experiences.

Rondoval collects found materials and restructures them to augment their previous states of being. Finding beauty in all its manifestations, his shamanic journeys  impart a grounding and spiritual essence to the work.

David Steele’s primary medium is the margins of old books. The artist’s use of printed matter connects symbolically to his graduate education in postmodern literary criticism.

Steele tears out pieces of paper, using them as “brush strokes” to create striking, rhythmic compositions that lend complexity to elegant simplicity.
